Potter Daniel Christie returned to the Artists’ Alliance (AA) for a Raku pottery demonstration Saturday, December 12, on a rare, springlike day in December.
Daniel took the crowd through all of the steps to create this beautiful pottery, from high heating, to cooling, to reduction, and then polishing.
Daniel’s daughter Parker, assisted him in the polishing. The crash cooling cycle creates the distinct surface.
Throughout, Daniel shared his vast knowledge of pottery processes; clays, glazes, kilns, and everything else. Two lucky attendees won Raku pots that Daniel created during the demonstration. He will be back again, when it gets warm. And he left a couple of pieces for sale at the gallery.
